Biography

Annalisa Buffa is Full Professor at EPFL, where she held the Chair of Numerical Modelling and Simulation since 2016. She completed her M.Sc. equivalent in Computer Science Engineering with highest honors in 1996 and earned her Ph.D. in Mathematics from the Università di Milano in 2000 under the supervision of Prof. Brezzi. She served as the Director of CNR-IMATI in Pavia from 2013 to 2016 and held several prestigious visiting and postdoctoral research positions across Europe and USA. Her research excellence has been recognized with major international accolades, including the ICIAM Collatz Prize in 2015 , the Bartolozzi Prize in 2007 , and being named a Web of Science Highly Cited Researcher in 2019. As a Principal Investigator, she has managed multiple high-profile research projects, notably securing both ERC Starting and Advanced Grants. Furthermore, she is an elected member of elite scientific bodies like the French Académie des Sciences, the Academia Europaea, and the Accademia dei Lincei , while maintaining a robust academic presence through frequent plenary conference lectures and extensive editorial service for leading mathematics and engineering journals.
