Thesis topic: The aim of the project is to optimize the performance of seismic dampers made of shape memory alloy (SMA). Topology optimization is used, with an analytical calculation of the (non-linear) sensitivity, which may be used for SMA as well as elasto-viscoplastic structures. The final objective is to maximize the energy dissipated in SMA through hysteresis, using this novel method for topology optimization.
